RACING FROM WOLVERHAMPTON I went on Question of Sport on Tuesday, I was so nervous, I didn’t want to get the home question wrong… which I did! Q- what was the only horse to have won to have won the 2000 Guineas and the Derby? It was in 2012?
Despite that hiccup our team did pretty well. I was on Matt Dawsons team with Warwickshire and England cricketer Chris Woakes. On Phil Tufnell’s team were Michael Jamieson (swimmer) and Louis Smith (British bad ass gymnast) we had a good laugh. I won’t tell you the score but it was close! I’ll let you know when it’s due to air.
It’s Lincoln trial day at Wolverhampton tomorrow and there’s a couple in the feature race which stood out for me.
Intrude, a recent course and distance winner. He seems to underperform at Lingfield but put his best foot forward at Wolverhampton, so hopefully she can make it 3/3 there on Saturday for trainer David Simcock who won the race in 2014.
Another contender, although slightly more risky, is Jeremy Noseda’s lightly raced colt Keystroke. He really caught my eye when winning at Windsor, I hope the time off and the transfer to the all-weather is what he needs to reproduce that form.
The following race, the Lady Wulfruna stakes is an interesting one, Sovereign Debt who won the race last year is taken on again by Chookie Royale who finished 2nd to him in the race last year. With Sovereign Debt having to carry a 5lb penalty for his Group 3 win in Ireland, I think this year the placing will be reversed. Chookie Royale is a better horse at Wolverhampton so I wouldn’t read to much into his defeat at Lingfield last month.
Going over to the jumps my pick for the Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle is For Good Measure. He won with easy last time and looks like a horse that’s progressing. Another positive is that he’s only got 10 stone 7 which is quite light for Barry Geraghty.
However, he does have to improve a good bit for a race like this though and it’s a decent renewal with the likes of Rayvin Black in there. He’s likely to go off in front and he proved extremely difficult to pass last time and it could take a very well handicapped one to pass him. For Good Measure looks to be unexposed enough to have the right credentials to get there.
