WOLVERHAMPTON RIDES: Starting on Friday, I have a couple of rides at Wolverhampton, both on Tom Dascombe trained horses. First up is Mr.Christopher, who is having his first run out for Tom. This is a really interesting runner for me as I don’t really know the horse too well. His previous races have been a mile and a quarter, whereas today’s race is dropping back in trip to 5 furlongs. He is a sprint bred horse, so could certainly be a good bet at the price you can get him.
My second ride for Tom today is on Roman Times, this is a horse I have ridden before, and I quite like the horse. I know he hasn’t been on great form lately, but one thing that I feel will suit him is the all weather track, which he has not ran on before. This is a lower grade race than he normally runs so I think he has an advantage, but the only downside here is he has a bad draw, but at a big price again, I would not rule him out.
Looking at Saturday’s races, I have chosen a race a Newbury and a horse called Moderah who is trained by James Fanshawe. I watched him in his last race and felt he was really impressive. Although it’s gone up a few pounds in the ratings I think it’s progressive and James Fanshawe is a really good one to follow at this time of the year as his horses are always improving.
It turns out I will be riding in the BETDAQ.COM 2% Commission Handicap which works out well, where I will be riding Desert Ace. I don’t know the horse, but his last two races have been disappointing, but looking at his form he has been competitive off a higher mark, and the ground seems to suit him so I’m not without a chance in that one.
Another horse to look at in this field would be Dungannon. He is quite a keen horse and I feel the big field would suit him as he has run well in big field handicaps before, and others may go too quick.
I also like the look of Steps who has really been excelling this year and ran a really big race in the Abbaye where it only got beaten by four and a half lengths in a Group 1. Apprentice jockey Cameron Noble will take off 7 pounds which will help his chances. Although the apprentice has not got a huge amount of experience but I have ridden with him before and he is very good and knows the horse well.
GHOST TRAIN IN HALLOWEEN WEEK
Coming to the end of the season, there has been a really good atmosphere around the weighing rooms as the finishing line is in sight for all the jockeys. As everybody has their holidays booked, and know the season is coming to an end, you really get that feeling of a second wind when you go for a run.
Looking forward to next week, I have got a run in Leicester on Monday, where I will ride another Tom Dascombe horse, Spirit Of The Vale. He was denied a clear run last time out, and feel could be better this time around.
I’ve also got Ghost Train at Chelmsford for Tim McCarthy, he has ran well at Chelmsford before which is a positive. Out of 33 runs on the all weather, he has finished second 10 times, so he certainly has a chance, but it may be better to look towards an each way price.
