JONATHAN HOBBS: Friday nights at Romford rarely disappoint – especially when we’re talking major competitions. So this week’s heats of the Coral Golden Sprint very much help the action from the London Road track swing!

Carrying on a busy period following the Coral Essex Vase and Maiden events, it’s time for the real speedsters now with some of the quickest greyhounds around competing for a first prize of £10,000 in a fortnight.

The UK’s leading sprinter Crossfield Dusty heads the entry and Patrick Janssens’ dog, from the kennel which sent out last year’s winner in Bockos Jon Jo, faces a fascinating re-match with Havana Class after their first and second in Sunday’s Towcester final.

Eyes down then for six cracking heats.

Romford

6.43: Corrin Logan has struggled to put things together of late but this return to a happy hunting group can help Dave Lee’s dog. He posted a flying 23.97sec in January and a slick exit gets him back on track here, although a ping from Russian Blake threatens.

6.58: Ballymac Slapup and Knocknaseed Gem give John Mullins a huge hand in this heat two of the Golden Sprint. The red jacket was back in winning form latest and, from a plum inside pitch, could make hay here. Big respect to fast-starting Mon Amie outside.

7.18: Zari Rosie won the Coral Maiden in great style and then followed up in another two-run event. Paul Burr early-paced bitch loves the rails and might use those to beat Scala Omeara, albeit the latter is a serious sort when dominating himself.

7.36: Mark Wallis has a strong hand here and could claim all three semi-final places. Preference is for his Rail McCoy, a 24.08 October winner, against kennelmates Antigua Socks, a Romford specialist, and Towcester finalist Early Knight.

7.56: Drahan Jet could lead the way home here for Seamus Cahill. He will need to be sharp early to edge the likes of Carter Bar next door, as the white-boxed runner boasts a good record over C&D. However a 23.99sec win here on Jan 7 stands out.

8.17: The UK’s best sprinter, Crossfield Dusty arrives having won the big Towcester sprint in which he led home Havana Class. Both are at the top of their game and this should a fast and furious clash. The start will be crucial, but T2 will not be stopping in behind!
