JONATHAN HOBBS: Eyes down for a terrific card at Hove tonight as the Ladbrokes and Coral tracks – Crayford, Hove, Monmore and Romford – put on a real show in the first RPGTV Entain Track Championship tonight, live on SportyStuff TV/RPGTV.
This four-way inter-track competition has brought together a number of stars of the track representing their home venues in an even reminiscent of the old Supertrack competition or, more recently, the Bags Track Championship.
Points make prizes across the board – and Hove are just fancied to come out on top overall given home advantage and plenty of favourable draws.
So to the pick of the races. Here goes . . .
Hove Saturday
6.09: Bubbly Bollinger and Smurfs Machine renew rivalry again. The latter had the edge at Towcester but Paul Young’s red-vested runner lost nothing in defeat and was closing all the way to the line. A better draw tonight gives the Romford raider the edge now?
Play: Bubbly Bollinger
6.28: Bubbly Spark looks well drawn outside and could see Romford take an early grip on proceedings. Another Paul Young-trained runner, he could take advantage of trackmate Droopys Flight edging inwards early – so clearing the way for the Golden Sprint finalist.
Play: Bubbly Spark
6.58: A stayers’ contest now and Three Ems could bounce back. Another Young-trained runner, her best form does the trick here, although there might be opposition to her given a losing run. However the 740m suits the red jacket, with stamina issues among her rivals.
Play: Three Ems
7.18: Another cracking race where well-drawn Sharp Darcy will have his supporters, but the early pace of Nathan Hunt’s Ballyard Ricki might always hold sway. He trialled well and should pace up to lead, with middle-moving Drumdoit Key clearing the way?
Play: Ballyard Ricki
7.36: Droopys Alina could land maximum points for the home side. Jason Heath’s runner can tend to find the troublespots but this draw and make-up gives her every chance in a race where she should enjoy plenty of room as opposed to a graded event.
Play: Droopys Alina
7.56: A cracking 515m event where the Puppy Derby champion Surprising could also take gold for the home side. Seamus Cahill’s runner kept on well at Towcester latest and, if coming away from a plum draw, might always have the measure of Droopys Addition.
Play: Surprising
8.17: Top division of the sprint next where Blastoff Mason with a ping-start likely lands the spoils, but any move middle could lose valuable ground which means top sprinters Shrewd Call and Ballymac Micko could pounce. The latter can win on the break for Jim Reynolds.
Play: Ballymac Micko
8.38: Lights Out could be value in this bitches’ event against Luna Rocket and Newinn Liz. The pair featured in a hot race last week, but Kevin Hutton’s Monmore raider is at the top of her game and runs strongly throughout. Clearing Pantone Whisper is key.
Play: Lights Out
8.54: Blue Tick George is a top stayer and anything like a clear run makes him tough to hold. Some top efforts at Sunderland recently included a track record and his pace and strong-running style gets the verdict for Jim Daly over local star Mad Mash Bullet.
Play: Blue Tick George
9.12: Seomra Razl kept on well last week behind a good winner and gets a better draw for his efforts here. The Jason Heath-trained local has a decent record from the red jacket, although a ping-start from Newinn Jacko would certainly bustle up the red-jacketed runner.
Play: Seomra Razl
9.28: The Hove closer now and litter sisters Lemming Fly (Romford) and Slippy Eva (Hove) could decide the team event. Both arrive in winning form, with the blue jacket’s runaway victory over 750m at Romford just giving her the nod for Michelle Brown.
Play: Lemming Fly
