JONATHAN HOBBS: A fantastic weekend ahead for greyhound fans kicks off with the heats of the Coral Golden Sprint at Romford on Friday.

A FANTASTIC weekend ahead for greyhound fans kicks off with the heats of the Coral Golden Sprint at Romford on Friday.

Always a top-notch event, the line-up looks as competitive as ever with six heats proving a real puzzle for punters – but that means value to be had!

Romford form again takes precedence with a number of trial stakes in recent weeks offering up clues and it’s 8-1 the field for those taking an ante-post plunge.

So six heats of the Coral Golden Sprint on Friday, followed by the Racing Post Juvenile at Sheffield on Saturday and the Cearnsport Springbok Final at Central Park on Sunday.

Let’s start with Romford . . .

Romford

7.33: Heat one of the Golden Sprint could see Sidaz Jet make the most of his rails draw. The recent Winter Derby finalist at Hove runs for the Matt Dartnall camp and, with the benefit of a trial when he railed well, the make-up sees him edge sprinter Kenton Ten?

Play: Sidaz Jet

7.49: A cracking clash sees Forest Jason versus Badminton Donal. Outright times give the blue jacket every chance given his runaway 23.67sec win last week, but the latter could get first run and Kevin Hutton’s Puppy Cup finalist is a cracking trapper. He needs catching.

Play: Badminton Donal

8.06: Another cracking Golden Sprint heat sees an intriguing battle between Swift Biscuit and Towstar Billy into the bend. The former gets a narrow vote for John Mullins’s camp given the inside line, with both looking to get the jump on the capable Magical Houdini.

Play: Swift Biscuit

8.21: Ballymac Micko failed to hold an always-handy Forest Jason last week but expect Jim Reynolds’ runner to again get first run on his rivals – and this time he might be away. He remains a cracking trapper and early pacer, although must keep Wall Garden at bay.

Play: Ballymac Micko

8.38: The penultimate Golden Jacket heat and Seaglass Shadow’s electric early pace could see her seal the deal for Yvonne Gaskin. She’s just starting so well just lately, although Buster Buster will run fresh and fast and pounces on any mistakes.

Play: Seaglass Shadow

8.53: The final Golden Sprint heat is a right teaser! Droopys Mac ran right away from his rivals last week and goes close if handy, although top sprinter Troy Bella is among the oppositIon. Might June Harvey’s General James be the value on his Hove sprint form?

Play: General James

Pick of the supporting races could see Danny Riordan’s Rio Blanco (7.03) build on a recent fine efforts; Kevin Hutton’s Velvet Matilda can make all over 575m, plus take Ernie Gaskin’s Droopys Aoife (10.13) reverse form with Desperado Dan later on.

Good luck everyone.
