Top-class racing continues. After Yarmouth’s RPGTV East Anglian Derby heats on Wednesday, get set for a double-header at Romford on Friday as the heats of both the Coral Romford Puppy Cup and Coral Champion Stakes take place at the Essex venue.

Then, on Saturday, eyes down for the quarter-finals of the BoyleSports Irish Derby. It’s a fantastic 48 hours for greyhound fans – and all the action is on RPGTV (Live 360 on Sky channel 175 and Freesat channel 176). Let’s look at the Romford card.

Romford Friday

6.09: Heat one of the Puppy Cup and the Jason Bloomfield-trained Glengar Hunter, a fast Dundalk winner, could be tough to hold with any improvement on his prep trial. He’s once-raced and drawn the right side of another speedy youngster in You Never Forget.

Play: Glengar Hunter T2

6.28: Antigua Bruiser is an interesting newcomer. Bringing two sets of high-profile owners together, this Irish-bred makes his UK debut tonight and has moved well in trials. A slick exit will be needed to beat ante-post favourite Our Boy Seamus, however.

Play: Antigua Bruiser T5

6.43: Bubbly Magnum is another newcomer who catches the eye. Paul Young’s dog has hardly seen a rival in trials, trapping smartly and showing good early pace, and his Irish work gives him the edge on UK debut. Glenvale Tony shapes as the danger.

Play: Bubbly Magnum T4

6.58: Tenpin is having just his third race and could be another local winner, this time for David Mullins. He romped home last week over C&D in a fast 24.04sec and, with a slower trapper inside in Nightingale Jet, has every chance to steal a march.

Play: Tenpin T2

7.18: Another Romford Puppy Cup heat could see Adageo Blue shine. Now with Martyn Wiley, the red-jacketed runner needs to be sharp to hold Newcastle raider Lightfoot Ripley next door but might always be handy, ready to press home the advantage.

Play: Adageo Blue T1

7.36: The sixth and final Romford Puppy Cup heat could see another Paul Young-trained runner Bubbly Bollinger fire. He’s been backed in both starts without enjoy much luck but 23.92sec and 23.93sec trials show what he’s capable of. A slower starter inside tonight helps.

Play: Bubbly Bollinger T2

7.56: The first of the Coral Champion Stakes heats. A narrow vote goes the way of Patrick Janssens’ Desperado Dan who showed plenty again when winning at Monmore last week and runs Romford as well as any, although handling the four-box is key. Shoot The Bolt is the obvious alternative.

Play: Desperado Dan T4

8.17: Blue Tick George steps up in trip here – and Jim Daly’s dog looks interesting. He’s been running in trial stakes for the Derby over 500m at Notts so will be pacing up here from the four-box. He could go clear, although the start is key to tack across to the rails.

Play: Blue Tick George T4

8.38: One of the bankers of the night for many will be Smallmead. John Mullins’ talented bitch roared back to top form last week, posting a fast 35.08sec, and might always be on the premises here from a plum trap one pitch. Keeping Rising Lava next door at bay is key.

Play: Smallmead T1

8.54: Hocus Pocus gets the vote for heat four of the Champion Stakes. Pam Dolby’s runner was only narrowly beaten last week and runs the track well with a mixture of speed and stamina – a best of 35.39sec in a trial stands out here. Droopys Aoife at best rates a threat to all.

Play: Hocus Pocus T4

9.12: Seaglass Sabina might be well drawn ahead of this heat five of the Champion Stakes. She starts well – and needs to with Nans Major next door – but a 35.00sec best in July shows what Patrick Janssens’s improving bitch can do.

Play: Seaglass Sabina T1

9.28: The concluding Champion Stakes heat and Itsur Mate could complete a good night for Team Young. He’s a terrific front runner and showed himself in good form last week, posting a decent clock. Of the rest Tiffield Maximus could run fresh and fast after a break.

Play: Itsur Mate T6

Good luck all.
