JONATHAN HOBBS: A cracking weekend’s open racing starts off with Romford on RPGTV tonight with the usual high-quality fare from the Essex track and a host of big names turning out.
Recent Cesarewitch winner Aayamza Royale makes a reappearance in a superb 750m contest in which she clashes with fellow finalists Three Ems, Affirmed and Zascandil over eight bends – two bends less than the Ces, of course!
Some crackerjack 400m races also grace the card with Newcastle trainer Angela Harrison’s team making the long journey south for a series of two-run competitions.
Let’s take a look at the pick of the races.
Romford Friday
6.09: Newcastle raider Droopys Delight catches the eye. A finalist in the Young Guns at Sheffield where he was poorly drawn, Angela Harrison’s dog lacks a run at Romford but if trapping on terms has the speed to shine. Seaglass Sailor, well pitched, rates a threat.

6.28: Roxholme Irene made the final of the Romford Puppy Cup, only to be crowded out of contention before hitting the deck. None the worse for the experience, Nathan Hunt’s bitch moved well in a comeback trial over tonight’s C&D and looks really well drawn in stripes.

6.43: Bogged down in the Derby first round after pacing up well, conditions should be better for Kevin Boon’s Bockos Boss. He surely remains the best maiden (0 from 12) in training and traps in front for the spoils? Marinas Recruit has trialled in well.

6.58: Droopys Dazzler is an interesting runner here. Another from the Angela Harrison kennel, he takes on a cracking home challenge over 400m – so only the best will do! However he’s a real speedster. Our Boy Seamus looks drawn to be chief danger.

7.18: The first heat of a maiden stayers over 575m sees an interesting contender in You Never Forget. Jim Reynolds’ dog ran well in the Puppy Cup and that speed over 400m could serve him well over 575m. Stamina might be an issue, but a lead shouldn’t.

7.36: Droopys Addition is interesting upped in trip. Like Bockos Boss he ran in the Derby and was never a player in the rain on Saturday. A solid front runner given the chance, his class could take him clear – and he’s a stronger type generally now, too.

8.17: Had this been over 925m as in the Cesarewitch final, then Aayamza Royale takes some holding. However over this distance Zascandil (Kevin Boon) might have too much speed if bossing proceedings like he did in the Ces heats – note a 34.71sec sectional!

8.38: Madabout Amigo could have his supporters in this maiden 400m final. He posted the fastest heat time and looks better drawn potentially tonight than last week, although a slick start is required from David Mullins’ dog to see off a field of speedsters.

8.54: Timewise it’s difficult to knock the claims of Paradise Prince and Detroit who ran in the fastest heat. However, the eye-catcher in her heat was Kooga Keira given Richard Devenish’s bitch ran on well after early crowding. Might represent value.

9.12: Droopys Aoife failed to dominate last week but could be a different proposition if breaking smartly – as Ernie Gaskin’s bitch did when posting a red-hot 35.27sec recently. Note the draw for Tiffield Maximus, given he’s starting well. Sheldan is powerful.

9.28: Looks a penalty kick for Bubbly Cristal on UK debut, although she could be priced accordingly in this maiden 750m. Trials have been rock-solid and fast and she looks another nice addition to the Paul Young team. Blue Mischief might run well at decent odds.
