JONATHAN HOBBS: Get set for a decent weekend’s action on the track with a clutch of open races at Monmore and Crayford tonight, plus Central Park tomorrow.
Monmore hosts the Ladbrokes Track Championships with several graded finals, but the open-race action is top-notch also and Angela Harrison’s pair of Droopys Live (7.07) and Droopys Reel (9.47) can notch up a double for the Newcastle handler.
The former was the winningmost open-racer last year and is having her last campaign with the breeding paddocks on the cards when next in season, while Droopys Reel is almost untouchable in the sprint division just now and looks to land an eighth straight success tonight.
Local trainer Kim Billingham might also be a kennel to follow given Ballymac Miscula (7.23) and Market Call (8.27) could both take some holding.
Both ran at Nottingham on Monday with Ballymac Miscula putting up a great effort before being outstayed by in-form Sonic Spur, while Market Call is at the top of his game just now and his early pace could seal the deal.
Crayford’s RPGTV action remains top-notch as the Kent track continues the countdown to the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket with a couple of 714m contests.
Katie O’Flaherty’s Deadly Blue (8pm) is still open to improvement after just two races in the UK, but on his Irish form he takes some holding.
Others given the thumbs-up at Crayford tonight are Michelle Brown’s Perrys Choice (8.17), who ran well in the Essex Vue at Romford before Christmas, plus Ernie Gaskin’s Newinn Cracker (8.34), who has a better draw than a good run over C&D last week.
Heather Dimmock’s Stardom (9.27) looks to go one better herself than last week and the reigning Ladbrokes Golden Jacket campaign can once again underline her liking of the Kent circuit.
Likewise, Belinda Green’s Gislebertus (9.45) has any amount of wins at the track and wasn’t disgraced at Hove last time having notched up a recent win there.
On to tomorrow and King Louis (7.53) can grab gold in the main event at Central Park when he lines up in the Sunday Night Standard Final on the RPGTV card.
Others went quicker in the heats but the switch to stripes catches the eye and Liz McNair’s dog has strong leadability claims providing he clears sister Queen Dolly early, before getting first run on the strong-running Ballymac Osby.
The supporting card at Central Park is again decent, with the emphasis on the hurdles given the Springbok is not far away.
Other fancies at the Kent track are another McNair runner Queen Lilly (8.09), who remains an improving pup, the Ricky Holloway-trained novice hurdler Bockos Rory (6.44), while Kevin Hutton’s challenge on the night is typically strong – Ballydorgan Des (8.09) and Swansalona Playa (9.17) could be his best chances.
