JONATHAN HOBBS: THIS time next week the greyhound scene will have welcomed back open racing, with RPGTV-backed competition heats scheduled at Romford on Friday and the Colossus Bets Kent Silver Salver at Central Park on Sunday. It means a batch of top sprints ahead of the Category Two event at the Kent track tomorrow (Sunday), as well as another decent card at Towcester.
Saturday’s action sees RPGTV broadcast live action from Hove and Sheffield, with the SIS action including another good card at Monmore including a brace of A1s.
Here’s a few eye-catchers across the weekend:
Saturday
Sheffield
7.47: Geelo Davey was spring-heeled from the boxes last week and a repeat does the trick in this D1 sprint. Carl Perry’s dog has returned from the break in great heart and can get first run on the likes of Sonic Ruby and Meadow Way Star.
Play: Geelo Davey
Hove
7.12: Derek Knight’s Ashwood Telly makes appeal here. He ran a cracker last week, running on strongly to just be narrowly edged out, and a handier slot looks on the cards after a quicker exit to beat well-drawn Kilcree Silver.
Play: Ashwood Telly
8.32: Norah McEllistrim’s kennel could have the answer here courtesy of Chain Lighting. He starts and stays well and should improve after two runs back post-lockdown ahead of this A3. Mineola Messi shapes as the biggest danger outside.
Play: Chain Lighting
Monmore
6.02: Top-grade action kicks off the card at the Wolverhampton venue and the Kevin Hutton-trained Distant Move catches the eye. He’s a top-grade performer over both four and six bends and the stripes draw helps matters to edge out Sweet Leaf.
Play: Distant Move
6.22: More top-grade action now, this time a sprint D1. However it’s a top four-bend performer in Market Call who takes the beating. Kim Billingham runner will launch a powerful challenge throughout from his favoured six-box draw.
Play: Market Call
9.02 Droopys Mansion looks a really interesting newcomer from the Hutton camp. He came through powerfully to win his last trial and, while likely to be led by Grogeen Country, looks tough to hold with a clear run – on the way to bigger and better things.
Play: Droopys Mansion
Sunday
Central Park
6.32: This A1 sees the welcome return of last year’s Monmore Gold Cup winner Seaglass Tiger. He’ll improve for the run, but keeping tabs with Tony Collett’s race-fit Tommys Panther will be tough. He was the only one holding a candle to King Sheeran last week.
Play: Tommys Panther
Towcester
5.02: Matt Dartnall can have high hopes of landing the Towcester opener – an invitation. He sends out both Distant Bolt and Distant Stream, with the former fancied to shade his kennelmate after some strong efforts in trials. A better exit could seal the deal.
Play: Distant Bolt
5.57: Kevin Boon sends out the most likely leader in Droopys Premier and this open-race sprint winner could take some catching. This 500m will test his stamina but a long advantage looks on the cards and he might hold on from some stronger types behind.
Play: Droopys Premier
6.49: Coolavanny Messi is top drawer at best and ran an encouraging debut last week. Mark Wallis’s dog was best of the rest behind the impressive Optimism then and will come forward enough to go one better with a decent enough start and clear run.
Play: Coolavanny Messi
Good luck all.
