PREVIEW
Walsall emerged from a winless streak of 16 games with a narrow 1-0 win over Colchester on the 22nd of December and then went on to win two of their three other games over the festive period to climb away from the relegation places.
They have a fair set of fixtures coming up over the next few weeks which should see them pick up more wins if they continue this recent improvement. The home clash against hapless Portsmouth tonight looks a good chance to grab another win.
Jamie Paterson’s late strike earned a 1-0 victory over Stevenage on New Year’s Day and he believes the Saddlers are beginning to regain confidence after that dreadful run.
The 4-2 win away to play-off chasing MK Dons the previous game was impressive and they should have too many guns for Pompey at the Banks’s Stadium.
Portsmouth have lost seven of their last ten, winning none, and were thrashed by Swindon 5-0 in their last outing. It’s been a miserable couple of years for Pompey since they won the FA Cup in 2008 and it’s no surprise to see Walsall chalked up as favourites.
