There was no home win in the top flight this weekend, but that strange run looks set to be broken tonight as Manchester City welcome Swansea City to the newly-renamed Etihad Stadium.
The teams last met in the top flight in the 1982/3 season. That campaign ended in relegation for both sides and although the Swans will face another battle this time around, City will undoubtedly find themselves fighting at the other end of the table.
Brendan Rogers’ team couldn’t have asked for a harder start to life in the Premier League. On the plus side, anything they can take from the game will be a bonus and it gets an arduous match off the fixture list nice and early. However, the hosts look like dead certs.
City were owners of the third-best home record in the Prem last season and they haven’t lost in front of their own fans in 2011. On the other hand, their Welsh visitors were defeated 11 times on the road last term.
It could be a long evening for the away team and with the City win trading at 1.36, it looks better to back Roberto Mancini’s men with a -1.5 Asian Handicap at 2.18.
