PREVIEW
It is day three of Copa America 2011 and after slow starts from Argentina and Brazil against Bolivia and Venezuela respectively, third-favourites Uruguay will be looking to achieve more than the draws managed by their fellow big boys when they face Peru.
Along with Argentina, Uruguay are the joint-most successful nation in Copa America history, with 14 titles to their name.
And after going so well in South Africa last summer, where La Celeste finished fourth, they can be backed at around 1.52 for tonight’s game. However, lumping on Uruguay at short prices could be a dangerous game.
They have enjoyed only mixed form since the World Cup, and Peru has lost just once in the last five meetings between the teams. Although that was a 6-0 drubbing in Montevideo, it has won three of the other fixtures in that spell and drew the other.
After seeing other less fancied teams secure strong early results, there’s good reason to think that Peru can defy the 31-place gap between the sides in FIFA’s current rankings – and the odds – to at least deny Uruguay victory. An appealing strategy is to lay Uruguay at around 1.53 on Betdaq.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Lay Uruguay at around 1.53: 5 points
Sunday’s Return: -4 points
