Tonight’s action sees West Ham welcome Tottenham to Upton Park on the back of a really poor performance at Villa Park. That defeat was to be expected due to the Hammers’ troubles on the road this campaign.
It’s not just away from home that Sam Allardyce is finding it difficult. The Hammers have won only two of their last 13 matches and have not kept a clean sheet since a goalless draw at the Hawthorns in the middle of December. The Hammers will be determined to get a positive result having slipped to within six points of the relegation places.
Tottenham haven’t lost in the league since going down 2-1 at Goodison Park at the start of December. They also have Gareth Bale, who is in the form of his life. He’s scored six of Spurs’ last seven goals and is more than making up for Jermain Defoe’s enforced absence.
Andre Villas-Boas has the luxury of knowing that in securing three points here they can leapfrog Chelsea into third. Rafa Benitez’s side were well beaten at Man City on Sunday and all the momentum is with Spurs heading into the final stretch.
Spurs have only lost once in five visits to Upton Park; including three wins and I expect them to pick up another three points here.
