PREVIEW
Following an impressive 2-1 victory over Belarus, the Danes now know that another three points against Iceland would guarantee their qualification to the semi-finals. Iceland are without a point in the group and they suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Switzerland last time out. The only way Iceland can progress is if they win by three goals or more and Belarus lose.
The hosts showed great strength to comeback from a goal down against Belarus and the points were sealed with a fantastic strike from Nicolai Jørgensen. Christian Eriksen opened his account at the tournament with the equaliser and the Ajax midfielder will be keen to add to his tally. Eyjólfur Sverrisson knows his side need goals and a big victory, which should lead to plenty of chances being created.
It’s clear to see just what a tough task Iceland have to reach the last four given they have yet to score in the competition. One positive is that the manager can call upon Aron Gunnarsson once more after the midfielder has served his suspension for a red card in the opener.
Denmark won a 3-2 thriller the last time these sides met at this level and I expect another Danish victory this evening. Iceland have rarely threatened as an attacking force and have looked shaky at the back in their two matches, which Denmark can take full advantage of.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Denmark at around 1.46: 6 points
Friday’s Return: MATCH NOT COMPLETED
