PREVIEW
Bolton entertain Liverpool at the Reebok this afternoon and both clubs are in dire need of three points. Owen Coyle has been locked in a relegation battle all season and Bolton’s inability to pick up wins has seen them slip to second bottom in the table.
It’s not too difficult to see why Bolton are so low in the table when they have won only one home league game all season. Even though it was only against Macclesfield, Coyle will have taken some confidence from their FA Cup replay win.
Bolton have been beaten four times in their past six league outings at home, although they did pick up a point when Wolves visited on New Year’s Eve in their last league game at the Reebok.
Kenny Dalglish’s Reds are in big danger of missing out on a top four finish following another disappointing draw at Anfield. This time it was Stoke that frustrated Liverpool, but Swansea and Blackburn have also caused troubles.
Goals have been a real concern for Liverpool and the goalless draw with Stoke highlighted how much they are missing a top class finisher. Steven Gerrard’s return was meant to signal Andy Carroll’s turnaround – although it’s yet to happen.
Even with Liverpool’s recent troubles, the Reds have a superb record against Bolton and have beaten them in their last ten meetings. I don’t expect there to be lots of goals, but the visitors are capable of grinding out a much-needed away win.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Liverpool at around 1.58: 6 points
Friday’s Return: -4 points
