PREVIEW
It really has been a season of two halves for Crewe, who sneaked into the play-offs with an impressive run of results. Crewe started the season with five straight defeats, but ended by going 16 games unbeaten. Of the two sides it’s certainly the Alex that have the momentum heading into the post season.

The Alex will need to make the most of the game at Gresty Road and they ended the season by winning two and drawing one of the final three home league outings.

Five games prior to the regular season closer against Aldershot the Alex had only conceded a single goal in five matches as hosts.

Southend failed to score in two of their last three away matches, so a tight game is expected. The visitors took all three points on their most recent visit to Gresty Road following a 3-1 victory. Over the two league meetings the Shrimpers conceded only once and they’ll be looking to keep things tight before heading back to Essex for the second leg.

Crewe have shown enough to suggest they are capable of frustrating the Shrimpers on their own patch and Dean Smith will fancy his side’s chances of taking a lead into next week’s game. My advice would be to back the Alex on the back of their home form to head to Essex with an advantage at around 2.48 on BETDAQ
