PREVIEW

Having won their first three Premier League games, Chelsea’s season has rather stalled in recent weeks. A 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup was followed by a tame 0-0 draw against London rivals Queens Park Rangers, and then Roberto Di Matteo had to watch on as his side squandered a 2-0 lead over Serie A champions Juventus in their midweek Champions League clash.

They will seek to get their title challenge back on track when they host Stoke this afternoon. The Potters have hardly set the league alight over the last few years with their stubborn, rather than spectacular, style of play but they remain unbeaten in four league games this season – albeit Tony Pulis’ men are still searching for their first win. Four successive draws, including against champions Manchester City last weekend, has demonstrated they are a hard team to break down.

However, in recent times Chelsea have been vastly superior to their Northern opponents, winning eight of the last 10 meetings and four of the last five at Stamford Bridge without conceding a goal. That winning run should continue but Chelsea hardly appeal at around 1.4 on BETDAQ.

Both teams have only failed to score in one league game this season and, with Chelsea’s defence more leaky than usual in recent matches, Stoke should have at least a few opportunities to find the net. Backing both teams to score at around 2.08 looks a fair price.
