Manchester City slipped six points behind their biggest rivals last weekend as Robin van Persie’s last minute strike condemned the champions to a 3-2 defeat. Roberto Mancini will be looking to close that gap to three points when they head to Newcastle for Saturday’s early kick-off, before United face Sunderland later that day.
Mancini returns to St James’ Park for the first time since their crucial 2-0 win that meant they only needed to beat QPR on the final day to land the title. Yaya Toure was the man-of-the-match that afternoon with a late brace and they will need more of the same from their star midfielder.
City remain unbeaten away from home in the league since August and they have a decent record against the Magpies. The visitors have won four of the last five, drawing the other contest. Alan Pardew’s side are also in poor form and have found it difficult to match last season’s brilliant efforts. They haven’t been helped by injuries and the constant speculation around Demba Ba’s new contract.
Newcastle have lost five of their past six league games and I expect City to improve on their fine record against them. City have a chance to put some pressure on the leaders ahead of their 3pm game and I don’t expect them to miss out.
Therefore, backing under 3.5 goals at around 1.83 on BETDAQ looks the way to go.
