PREVIEW
Morecambe and Sheffield Wednesday meet for the first time in their history this afternoon looking to reach the second round of the 135th FA Cup. The hosts are currently plying their trade in League Two, a division below Wednesday, but they currently are in the play-off places.
Jim Bentley’s side are on a good patch of form and have not lost in five league matches. Morecambe were held to a 1-1 draw at Plymouth last time out, but ran out 2-1 winners in their most recent home match. They have only lost three times in the league since August and also hammered early League Two favourites, Crawley Town, 6-0.
Although now in League One, the Owls have enjoyed a rich history and have won the FA Cup three times previously. The visitors suffered a setback when Stoke City refused a request for the side to play on-loan midfielder Ben Marshall, who has three goals and five assists in the league.
Gary Megson chose to play a weakened side in both the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the Carling Cup, so he may well be inclined to do the same here. Much will depend on Megson’s team selection, but even he goes with a strong side the Shrimps have enough to earn a replay.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back the draw at around 3.6: 4 points
Saturday’s Return: -4 points
