PREVIEW

Chelsea’s last home league match at Stamford Bridge ended in embarrassment and Andre Villas-Boas cannot afford any more performances like the one against Arsenal. The Gunners tore the Blues to pieces in a 5-3 win, although they were not helped by some dreadful defending.

Liverpool are next up and they pulled off the league double over Chelsea last campaign, so a big effort is needed. Before the international break, Chelsea sneaked a 1-0 win at Ewood Park following a below-par display.

The Reds haven’t exactly had an easy time of it of late even though they are unbeaten in eight matches across all competitions. Kenny Dalglish’s side have been really let down with some poor results at Anfield, including two recent draws with Norwich and Swansea. However, the Reds remain strong on the road and they have won four on the spin in the league. The visitors will also head into the clash knowing they took all three points on their most recent visit to Stamford Bridge.

Interestingly, Liverpool’s goalscorers in both league games against Chelsea in 2010/11 have now both swapped Merseyside for West London and are in contention to start. Raul Meireles scored the winner in the last meeting, but all eyes will be on former Kop hero Fernando Torres. The Spaniard has had a mixed season, but has shown glimpses of what he’s capable of. He would love to get his name on the scoresheet and the Reds will need to keep a close eye on him.

Even though Chelsea are struggling defensively they have won four of their past five home league games and they are a good shout for another here at 1.87 on BETDAQ.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Chelsea at 1.87: 4 points

Saturday’s Return: +7.62 points
