PREVIEW
While Liverpool boast an excellent record in this fixture, having won the last four league meetings, Chelsea are performing above expectations this season and will be looking to get all three points.
A midweek Champions League home victory against Shakhtar Donetsk mean Roberto Di Matteo’s side go into today’s match in high spirits. After going five games without a clean sheet, the London club will be boosted by the return of captain John Terry.
If he is able to nullify the threat of Luis Suarez, the Blues stand a great chance of victory as the tricky Uruguayan has been directly involved in 82% of his side’s goals this season.
Brendan Rodgers was left questioning his selection policy after losing 1-0 against Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League on Thursday night. The likes of Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling, Joe Allen, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel were all spared the trip to Moscow with today’s game in mind. They are expected to start today but, with the exception of Suarez, it is hard to see where the Reds’ goals will come from.
And, after Chelsea’s demanding midweek efforts, a low scoring game looks likely.
