PREVIEW
Fulham’s inspired comeback at the Emirates last Saturday set a precedent for a remarkable weekend of football. Martin Jol had Mark Schwarzer to thank for his penalty save at the death, but overall his Fulham side deserved to extend their unbeaten league run to five matches.
However, there have been four draws during that period and there will be high hopes among home supporters that they can return to winning ways when Sunderland arrive.
Dimitar Berbatov’s performance in North London will have had Arsene Wenger wondering why he didn’t try to sign the mercurial Bulgarian from Manchester United in the summer. Saturday’s two-goal hero took his tally to five in seven appearances and is adapting to life at Fulham well.
Craven Cottage has never been an easy place for visiting clubs and that’s proved the case again this season with just one defeat for the hosts here since August.
Sunderland let a one goal lead slip at Everton last time out and the 2-1 defeat on Merseyside stretched the Black Cats’ winless run to a worrying six games in all competitions.
Martin O’Neill is feeling the heat as he appears helpless to prevent his side drop down the table and his problems don’t look like letting up yet, considering the Mackems haven’t won an away league game since February.
Adam Johnson’s strike at Goodison Park was the winger’s first for his new club and ended an atrocious record that had seen the Black Cats go eight hours and 54 minutes of football without one of their players finding the back of the net. Steven Fletcher is the only other Sunderland player to score this season and I’m confident that Fulham’s centre backs can limit his threat.
At the other end, Fulham have averaged two goals a game in their past six home league fixtures and the 1.75 on BETDAQ for a home win should be snapped up.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Fulham at around 1.77: 7 points
Saturday: +4.16 points
NOVEMBER RETURN TO DATE: -0.52 points
