Arsenal have had a relatively quiet Christmas but showed their current well being with a 7-3 thrashing of Newcastle – hard to believe that match was 1-1 at half time !
Southampton have found things tough since promotion and are firmly in a relegation battle. When they last faced the Gunners in September they were smashed 6-1, but have since tightened up at the back.
The London club have won their last four league games and are running into form at the right time, after a rather hit and miss season so far. With a tough Champions League draw against Bayern Munich and a very tricky away tie to Swansea in the FA Cup, it looks like silverware may just be beyond them once again this term.
The race for fourth spot looks close this year and Arsene Wenger knows that lucrative position really is the minimum they should deliver for the restless fans.
The Saints have struggled for goals but haven’t conceded many recently either. That was before Saturday’s game at Stoke that finished 3-3. Prior to that Nigel Adkins’ men had seen three of their last four games finish with under 1.5 goals.
For that reason, backing under 2.5 goals at around 2.4 on BETDAQ is advised, with a stubborn defensive performance from the hosts likely to frustrate the visitors.
