PREVIEW

Blackpool make the trip to Sheffield Wednesday this evening looking to avoid an upset and progress through to the Carling Cup second round. Ian Holloway’s side got off to a great start in the Championship with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Hull last week.

It’s always tricky for relegated clubs from the Premier League to adapt to life in the Championship, but it looks as if things are progressing well for the Tangerines so far. The difficulty here is that Blackpool have a home game against Peterborough on Sunday, so the manager might well be inclined to rotate the squad significantly.

As we saw in last year’s Carling Cup, Holloway doesn’t take the competition too seriously after he started with a string of reserves and were consequently beaten 4-3 by League One outfit MK Dons.

Sheffield Wednesday got their League One season underway with an impressive 2-0 win over Rochdale at home. The hosts never really threatened the play-off places last term and that was largely because of some poor results at Hillsborough.

However, Wednesday have had a good record on their own turf against the Tangerines and it’s unlikely that Holloway will send out his best starting XI with an important league game on Sunday. With that in mind, the value lies with the home side and I would back them to win at around 2.8 on the ‘Daq’.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Sheffield Wednesday at around 2.8: 4 points
Wednesday’s Return: +4.80
