PREVIEW

Jordi Gomez’s late strike at the DW Stadium put paid to all Chelsea’s good work when they handed Manchester City their first defeat of the season. A point at Wigan means that the Blues are 12 points behind the league leaders and their title dreams are hanging by a thread.

Andre Villas-Boas faces another tough examination this evening when London rivals Tottenham welcome the Blues to White Hart Lane. Spurs have done well to bounce back from their controversial defeat at the Britannia Stadium with back-to-back wins against Shamrock Rovers and Sunderland.

Roman Pavlyuchenko’s 61st minute goal proved the difference against the Black Cats and they’ll fancy their chances against an inconsistent Chelsea outfit. Spurs have a great record against the Blues at home in the league and have not been beaten since a 2-0 loss in 2005. In Chelsea’s last five visits to the Lane they have not won once and they have been beaten three times.

As it stands Chelsea are two points behind their next opponents and they have played a game more. The Blues are unbeaten in three away league games, although the below-par 1-1 draw at Wigan will be firmly in their minds.

Clean sheets remain a problem for Chelsea and Spurs have the talent to really test their back four given their excellent home form. Spurs have won six on the spin at home in the league and I fancy another here at around 2.89 on BETDAQ.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Spurs at around 2.89: 4 points

Wednesday’s Return: -6.00
