PREVIEW
Denmark would have felt slightly hard done by with the opening 2-1 defeat to Switzerland on Saturday after having enough chances to at least rescue a point. The hosts came up against an inspired Yann Sommer in the Swiss goal and Xherdan Shaqiri’s excellent strike shortly after the break proved to be the difference.
It’s not all doom and gloom for the Danes as three of the past five U21 European champions lost their opening tournament matches. However, a loss to Belarus would leave them with a huge mountain to climb.
Keld Bordinggaard knows his side need to be more clinical tonight after dominating the possession and having far more shots on target in their opening contest.
Aron Gunnarsson’s sending off against Belarus and the resulting penalty did for Iceland in their first group game. Iceland had given a good account of themselves until the dismissal and Belarus will have been delighted to play out the remainder of the game a man up.
A point would all but secure their qualification, but playing defensively can be a dangerous tactic. The hosts know they desperately need a victory to give themselves a fighting chance of reaching the knock-out stages and will look to attack at every opportunity.
The Danes have enough talent to bounce back from their disappointment at the weekend and at around 1.67 on the ‘Daq’ they are a good shout to pick up three points.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Denmark at around 1.67: 4 points
Monday’s Return: -4 points
