PREVIEW
Frank Lampard’s header shortly after half time proved just enough as England edged out Spain 1-0 at Wembley. Although it wasn’t England’s best attacking performance, Fabio Capello will have been delighted to beat the World champions and keep a clean sheet.
England now meet Sweden this evening and the manager will be keen to make sure the side build on Saturday’s result. The 1-0 win was England’s second on the bounce at Wembley, where they found the going tough in the qualification stage. Spain had so much of the possession that it was a real defensive effort from England and it produced a third clean sheet in four internationals.
Sweden come into the game off the back of a 2-0 loss to Denmark, but their game before was a thrilling 3-2 victory over Holland to secure their place at Euro 2012 as best runner up in qualification. The Swedes won eight of their ten matches, scoring 31 goals in the process – although they did play against Moldova, San Marino and Finland in their group.
Against Sweden, England can expect more of the ball than they got on Saturday and it’s a case of what they do with it this time. England only managed three shots on target last time out and they’ll need to get more support for whoever starts up top.
England have failed to beat Sweden for 12 internationals and even with Saturday’s win, the draw looks most appealing here at 3.55 on BETDAQ.
