PREVIEW

Arsenal welcome Manchester City to the Emirates this evening for a Carling Cup clash and Samir Nasri can expect a hostile reception in North London. The French midfielder left the Gunners in acrimonious circumstances and the hosts would love to get one over City.

Arsene Wenger was left frustrated at the weekend as Fulham battled for a point to end a run of three straight victories. The Gunners had to rally from a goal down to get something from the Cottagers and they had to also come from behind against Bolton in their 2-1 win in the previous round of the cup.

The Gunners took four points from City last year, although they were held to a goalless draw in the most recent league meeting at the Emirates. Once again both managers can be expected to rotate their squad and the fringe players will have another chance to impress.

There’s no doubt that City have the stronger squad, but the Gunners can give players like Yossi Benayoun, Chu Yong Park and Tomas Rosicky a run-out and they can match up against City’s expensive set up.

Roberto Mancini’s side hammered Wolves in the previous round with Edin Dzeko scoring twice. The Bosnian can expect a start and he’ll be looking to score his first goal since the game against QPR at the start of November.

Even though a number of key starting players will be rested, there’s still a huge pool of talent to pick from. With both sides pushing for the win, I expect an open game and backing over 2.5 goals is the way to go.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back over 2.5 goals at around 1.78: 6 points

Monday’s Return: -4.00 points
