Wimbledon 2010 will not only be remembered for Rafa Nadal’s second Grand Slam on grass, but also for the epic 77 game marathon between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut. Although perhaps not the most glamorous of matches on day two, Isner v Mahut part two will attract a huge crowd after their record breaking contest last year.
With Isner’s five set victory, the American pulled level with Mahut and the head-to-head record currently stands at 1-1. These two players have only ever met on grass and fans can expect few breaks given both players have huge serves.
Isner has shown some good form this season and justifies favouritism at around 1.53 on the ‘Daq’. Tennis fans may recall Isner taking six-time Roland Garros champion, Rafa Nadal, to five sets at the same stage in Paris. It should be another close fought contest, but I expect Isner to come through and in fewer sets than the last time they met.
