PREVIEW
The Championship is guaranteed one representative in this year’s Carling Cup final as Crystal Palace and Cardiff meet in the semi-final. Palace are currently down in eleventh place in the Championship, but it’s so close that they are only three points behind the play-off spots.
Palace would be right in the play-off mix if it were not for some inconsistencies in recent weeks. In their past six league games, they have won three and lost three. Further concerns for Dougie Freedman are that his side were comfortably beaten 2-0 when the sides clashed earlier in the season.
It’s not all doom and gloom for Palace supporters though as the Bluebirds were beaten 1-0 on their most recent visit to Selhurst Park. Palace will need to be at their very best against a side that hasn’t lost any of their past six away league games.
The Bluebirds are third in the table and now only have the league and Carling Cup to fight for after they were dumped out of the FA Cup at the weekend by West Brom. Kenny Miller will be the visitors’ main threat, but he’ll face a tough evening against a Palace outfit that are currently joint- top of the cleansheet table in the Championship.
A crucial factor ahead of the game is that Freedman is unable to name his final squad until later this afternoon after his side has been hit by a virus. It was still going to be tough with Palace’s best XI on the pitch, but even more so with some star players looking likely to miss out. With that in mind, I’d recommend backing the away win at 2.4 on BETDAQ.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Cardiff at around 2.4: 4 points
Monday’s Return: -6
