Brentford met Crawley Town for the first time in their history on the weekend and a Clayton Donaldson brace secured a 2-1 victory for the Bees and made it five games unbeaten for the London club. Just three days later Uwe Rösler’s men face Crawley again in the second round of the St Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tonight.
Rosler has already admitted the priority for the club is the league and he is likely to mix up his squad. That should see Richard Lee start in goal and Leon Legge and Sam Saunders given run outs.
The Reds had previously been in decent form prior to that weekend loss, beating both Bournemouth and Carlisle by two goal margins after pushing Premier League side Swansea all the way in the League Cup.
Their boss Richie Barker will name a strong squad and that could see two former Bees, right-back David Hunt and midfielder Nicky Adams, in the squad to face their old club. Nicky Ajose, Billy Clarke or John Akinde could come into the starting line-up and winger Sergio Torres is also pushing for a recall.
Fans rarely want to hear their manager effectively say they won’t pay a competition too much attention as the focus is elsewhere, but for punters, news like that can make our day.
