PREVIEW
Having completed the first 30 Russian Premier Liga fixtures, the top eight clubs split into a Championship group whereby the clubs face each other home and away. Zenit St. Petersburg are the defending champions and have a two point cushion on CSKA Moscow in second place.
Before the split, Zenit were held to a 1-1 draw at Kuban Krasnodar who are five places below in the table. However, that was Zenit’s eighth game on the spin without a defeat and they will fancy their chances against a side they have had the better of in recent meetings.
Anzhi Makhachkala made some huge investments before the season with their main acquisition being Samuel Eto’o from Inter Milan. Owner Suleyman Kerimov spent vast sums to bring in the Cameroon striker to help close the gap on the likes of Zenit, but it has taken longer than hoped. Anzhi were the bottom side in the Championship group, although they did finish ten points ahead of Krasnodar in ninth position.
Zenit have beaten Anzhi in their past two meetings and they have not tasted defeat against their next opponents in four contests. With that in mind, I’m happy to tip up a home win at around 1.43 on BETDAQ.
