PREVIEW

Even though tonight’s starting XI will have a very different look, Sir Alex Ferguson knows the importance of getting back to winning ways after another disappointing result at the weekend. Manchester United made light work of both Aldershot and Leeds in previous rounds and the 2010 Carling Cup winners have been handed another favourable tie.

United have won both Carling Cup fixtures this year 3-0 and Fergie’s fledglings have looked excellent so far. However, it’s very rare for United to be held at home in back-to-back games, but that’s exactly what has happened with Benfica and Newcastle proving troublesome. With a tricky game at Villa Park on Saturday, Sir Alex will use the opportunity to keep his team fresh.

Even facing a second string side, Palace have an almighty task ahead of them if they’re to pull off an upset. Palace have not even managed a goal in their past five matches which has seen them beaten twice, both of which were away from Selhurst Park.

Dimitar Berbatov scored the opener against Aldershot and the Bulgarian will be hoping for another top performance to remind the manager what he’s missing. A home win is currently trading at around 1.29 on BETDAQ, which doesn’t represent much value. I’d be more inclined to back United in the HT/FT double result at 1.67 – which they’ve managed in their past two Carling Cup games.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back the Man United HT/FT double result at around 1.67: 6 points

Tuesday’s Return: -6.00 points
