27 Sep 2011 Champions League Bayern Munich 2-0 Manchester City
PREVIEW
Roberto Mancini knows that only a win tonight against Bayern Munich will keep Manchester City’s faint hopes of Champions League qualification alive. City will be doing all they can to get the three points and then it’s a case of hoping Napoli draw or lose against bottom-placed Villarreal.
City continued their hugely impressive domestic form with a 5-1 win at home to Norwich on Saturday. The goals took City’s tally at home in the league to 24, at an average of 3.4 per game. Mancini’s side have also been impressive at the other end and Steve Morrison’s header was only the fourth time they’ve conceded in the league at the Etihad Stadium.
However, City will be well aware of the threat their German opponents possess after the 2-0 defeat in Munich. The Germans are safe in the knowledge that whatever happens this evening, they will go through top of Group A. Bayern have also won six of their last eight Champions League away games, although they were held in their most recent European away fixture in Napoli.
Given that City need the win to have any chance of reaching the knock-out stages, I expect an open game and the over 2.5 goals market looks the option here.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back over 2.5 goals at around 1.78: 4 points
Tuesday’s Return: +3.90 points
