29 Sep 2011 Europa League Stoke 2-1 Besiktas
PREVIEW
Stoke just need a single point in Turkey this evening to secure top spot in Group E, but it won’t be easy against a notoriously tough Besiktas outfit. The Turkish club are currently two points behind the Potters, but more importantly are three ahead of third placed Dynamo Kiev as they look to secure their place in the next round after Christmas.
The competition this year will be one of the toughest for a number of years with some outstanding clubs being dumped out of the Champions League at an earlier stage than usual. Two of those clubs hail from Manchester, as both City and United crashed out last week.
Tony Pulis’ side ended Tottenham’s 11 match unbeaten run with a brace from Matthew Etherington at the weekend and there’s no doubt that the side will have taken a huge boost from the 2-1 win. Stoke have been excellent in Europe thus far and they have yet to be beaten in the group. The visitors have won one and drawn one of their two away European contests and they are strong enough to qualify from the group without a loss.
Besiktas boast of a 100% record at home and they won their most recent game at the İnönü Stadium 1-0 against Dynamo Kiev.
A draw would suit both sides and I’d recommend taking the 3.4 currently available on BETDAQ for the sides to be level at the final whistle.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back the draw at around 3.4: 4 points
Tuesday’s Return: -6.00
