PREVIEW
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge provided a Royal feel to centre court for Andy Murray’s fourth round match and the Scot put on an impressive show for the newlyweds. Murray breezed past Richard Gasquet in straight sets in a little over two hours to leave him in a fantastic position for his quarter-final clash.
Murray v Gasquet matches have earned a reputation for going the distance after a couple of epic encounters and the world number four will have been delighted to come through 7-6, 6-3, 6-2. His next opponent, Feliciano Lopez, was not so efficient and had to fight back from two sets down to overcome Polish qualifier Lukasz Kubot.
Lopez was on court for four hours and 18 minutes, but of course would have rather done it the hard way than be watching the rest of the competition on TV. The Spaniard’s appearance in the last eight is his third at Wimbledon and on route this year he has beaten Andy Roddick.
Those backing Lopez at around 8.8 on the ‘Daq’ will be concerned that he has lost all four of his matches against Murray, although they have never met at a Grand Slam or on grass. Expect some tight sets as Lopez leads the tournament aces chart with 72.
The British number one has won eight successive matches on grass, which is why he’s currently trading at 1.12 to reach back-to-back semi-finals at SW19. Against Lopez’s old school serve and volley style, Murray will have to adapt and I can see him dropping a set. With that, backing the Scot to win 3-1 looks good value at 3.6.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Murray in four sets at around 3.6: 4 points
Tuesday’s Return: -4.00 points
