21 Aug 2012, Champions League play-off, Helsingborg 0-2 Celtic
PREVIEW
Celtic have one foot in the Champions League group stages, with only a heavy home defeat in the play-off second leg to Helsingborg capable of denying them a place in the competition proper, after a three-season hiatus.
Kris Commons’ early strike got the Hoops off to a flyer in Sweden and Georgios Samaras wrapped things up in the second period to give the Scottish champions their commanding advantage.
Neil Lennon has said that the tie is far from over, but the 1967 European Cup winners are as short as 1.58 on BETDAQ to secure a follow up victory. A draw (4.2) would also be good enough, and even a Helsingborg win (6.6) would be too, so long as the Bhoys keep the score down. The visitors can be layed at 1.99 with a +1 Asian Handicap.
Celtic have won six and lost one of their most recent eight European games and the have never lost a European tie after winning the away leg first.
Furthermore, Helsingborg have won only nine of their 33 road matches in UEFA competitions, so anything other than another victory for the hosts seems most unlikely. They looked sharp in beating Inverness 4-2 on Saturday and are worth backing at around 2.47 to prevail by the half-time/full-time double result.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
