PREVIEW
England will travel to Sweden for their friendly with Erik Hamrén’s side top of their qualification group, but missing a whole host of players. Wayne Rooney is the most high profile of these, but the withdrawals opens the door for some of the young emerging talent.
Roy Hodgson will be without five starters ahead of the clash as the weekend’s Premier League action took its toll. One player grateful of the opportunity will be Crystal Palace’s star Wilfried Zaha, who becomes the first player since Jay Bothroyd in 2010 to be called up from the Championship.
Fans will likely recall the most recent meeting between these old rivals at the European Championships where a sublime Danny Welbeck finish gave the Three Lions the win late on. A number of domestic managers have complained about the timing of the match and I expect Hodgson to ring the changes at the break.
It looks as if both nations will experiment with their personnel and that will likely make for a disjointed game with few chances. Hodgson has made England into a very well organised outfit and I envisage Sweden struggling to make many opportunities, even with the mercurial Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the ranks.
There have been fewer than three goals in the last three international friendlies between the sides and another low scoring affair is expected. My advice to punters is to back under 2.5 goals at 1.82 on BETDAQ.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back under 2.5 goals at around 1.82 on BETDAQ: 5 points
