PREVIEW
It’s the country that created football against the country that perfected it tonight, as England take on Brazil at Wembley in a game which, on paper at least, should throw up more excitement that your average international friendly.

England’s left-back Ashley Cole will remember this game for a long time as he will be gaining his 100th international cap but Roy Hodgson has to do without the likes of Jermain Defoe and Daniel Sturridge up top. With Manchester United still in the race for three major honours this season, Sir Alex Ferguson certainly won’t want Wayne Rooney, Tom Cleverly and Danny Welbeck picking up injuries so it could be quite an experiential team.

Brazil always throw up images of flair and a fearless attacking style but recent form isn’t imperious. Take out the thrashings of minnows China, Iraq and Japan and they have narrowly beaten and then narrowly lost to Argentina and then drew with Colombia in their last six games.

Luiz Felipe Scolari has recalled Ronaldinho – the man who’s brilliant or flukey, depending on how you look at it, free-kick knocked out the Three Lions from the 2002 World Cup and still gives David Seaman nightmares – to the squad as he looks to mould experience into a talented team and lead the five-time world champions to a sixth crown on home soil in 2014.

It’s 13 years since tonight’s hosts beaten the Samba Boys and they’ll probably have to wait a bit longer to break that run. The Brazilians have more than enough talent to take apart a weakened England side should they wish too and a narrow visiting win looks the most likely outcome.
