Tottenham squeezed through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League in pretty desperate fashion with a 4-4 draw at the San Siro in the last round. Having squandered a 3-0 aggregate lead, they were grateful for Emmanuel Adebayor’s extra-time goal that knocked out Inter Milan on the away goals rule.
The layers on BETDAQ have tonight’s first-leg against Swiss side FC Basel as an easy assignment for Andre Villas-Boas’ men, with Spurs around 1.42 to take an advantage to Switzerland. That might be a little on the skinny side considering Basel have a decent European pedigree – they’ve beaten both Manchester United and Bayern Munich in recent seasons – and sit three points clear at the top of the Super League, winning eight of their last ten league matches.
The three-times defending Swiss champions also knocked out the useful Zenit St Petersburg in the last round, who themselves had seen off Liverpool, so don’t underestimate Murat Yakin’s side.
Spurs have won four and drawn one of their Europa League matches at White Hart Lane this season, but have let in goals in seven of their last nine matches. In contrast, Basel have conceded only two goals in total in their last seven Europa League matches and have conceded just one goal after half-time this season in ten European matches.
With their opponents decent defensive record in mind, backing Spurs with a handicap doesn’t appeal and, with Jermain Defoe injured and Adebayor hardly in a rich vein of form, the best bet might be under 2.5 goals at around 2.24 on BETDAQ.
