MATCH POINT: Our tennis tipping column is 49 points up since it started. Now for the Australian Open – the first Grand Slam of 2020 and a look at the Women’s Outright market on BETDAQ.

A profit of 8.55 points from Ashleigh Barty beating Dayana Yastremska in the final of the Adelaide International.

Two things I took out of that – heading into the first Slam of the year in Australia. Despite the result I didn’t think Barty looks in the kind of form to win a Slam and I was also impressed with Yastremska who for a period in the second set completely outplayed the world number one.

Yastremska is around 43 on BETDAQ and don’t forget 0% COMMISSION ON BETDAQ for all tennis markets so no reason not to get involved and the Ukraine player will be one of my three pre-tournament selections.

Her first match is early on Monday morning against qualifier Kaja Juvan – the pair meeting for the first time.

If the draw pans out she could end up meeting pre tournament favourite Serena Williams in the fourth round.

Williams at around 4.9 doesn’t make much appeal to me. There’s a huge and increasing pressure on the American to win her 24th Grand Slam to equal the record set in 1973 by Australia’s Margaret Court.

However Williams hasn’t won a Grand Slam title since 2017 and since returning from maternity leave in March 2018 has fallen short in four Grand Slam finals (two at Wimbledon and two at the US Open).

She did however win the Auckland International on Sunday, beating fellow American Jessica Pegula in the final, lifting her first trophy in nearly three years but that has to be tempered by the fact that many of the world’s best players missed the tournament.

I want to be with number two seed Karolina Pliskova who comes into this on the back of another win in the Brisbane International (also won in 2017 and 2019).

Pliskova lost to eventual champion Osaka in last year’s Australian Open semis but made rapid progress in the WTA rankings up to number two after a great 2019.

She starts off on Tuesday against French player Kristina Mladenovic who has been eliminated in the first round for each of the last three years.

The final part of the portfolio is Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian is a live outsider. She had a great win in Adelaide last week beating Simona Halep 6-4, 6-2 before being beaten by Yastremska in the semis.

She is playing with a lot more confidence now which has been boosted by the defence of her singles title in Wuhan where she beat Ashleigh Barty along the way.
