MATCH POINT: Our tennis tipping column previews the Women’s Australian Open with three recommended BETDAQ bets.
The Women’s tournament looks wide open judged by the BETDAQ SPORTSBOOK market.
The starting point has to be Serena Williams, seven-times champion who is still seeking, what is starting to look elusive, a record equally 24th career Slam.
We’ll know plenty more about Williams after her first round match against Laura Siegemund. If you do fancy Williams to win outright, I’d recommend waiting until this first game as you won’t take much of a hit on the price and also due to the fact that it’s not the easiest opener for Williams.
The challenge for Williams is current match fitness which could be exposed by Siegemund who, although unseeded, is solid enough and currently ranked #51.
I prefer to look elsewhere for value and could easily see a new name on the title for the fourth year in succession after:

SIMONA HALEP is a former World Number One who is a model of consistency on the circuit. She has shrugged off some injury speculation and is the sort of player that could put her experience to good use in an open year. She’s halfway in her plight to win all of the Slams after winning at Roland Garros in 2018 and Wimbledon the following year.
GABRINE MUGURUZA was agonisingly beaten in the final last year – despite taking the first set fairly comfortably. Sofia Kenin dominated sets two and three winning them both 6-2. Muguruza came up short on Sunday against Ash Barty in the final of the Yarra Valley Classic but heads into the tournament in good overall form. Barty is the home favourite but her lack of recent match practice might be a factor at the deeper end of the tournament.
JENNIFER BRADY The most speculative of my trio but she looks slightly over-priced for an out and out hard court specialist. She has got a fairly good draw and could run deep into the final stages with her supremely effective serve.
