MATCH POINT: Our tennis tipping column is is now 19.2 points up. Next up: a recommended bet for the final of the BB & T Atlanta Open tournament in Atlanta.
A pleasing result midweek with Cameron Norrie beating Alexei Popyrin in the quarter finals in straight sets, rewarded at around 1.9 on the BETDAQ tennis markets and the column is now 19.2 points up on all selections since it began !
However, for the second year running Norrie came unstuck at the semi-final stage of the Atlanta Open when he was beaten 1-6, 6-3, 3-6 to American Taylor Fritz who plays Australian Alex de Minaur in tonight’s final.
De Minaur had a tough semi-final battle against Reilly Opelka, eventually coming out on top 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 6-3.
It would be no surprise to see 20-year-old De Minaur go all the way against the American whose game largely revolves around his powerful first serve.
De Minaur, the youngest finalist in the tournament’s history will claim a second career title if beating Fritz, having claimed the Sydney International title earlier this year.
Precious little separates the two finalists on world rankings Fritz (32) v De Minaur (34) and it’s no surprise to see the BETDAQ market so close between the pair.
The two have played each other twice, with De Minaur winning on both occasions.
Both matches came last year, on a hard court in Milan (in shorter format sets) and then in the second round of the Surbiton Challenger tournament on grass with De Minaur winning that 6-4, 7-6.
There’s very little to choose between the two young players but I have to side with De Minaur for small stakes to continue his superiority over Fritz.
