MATCH POINT: Our new tennis tipping column hopes to get off to an Ace start in Paris. The ‘big three’ are all in action – including Nadal who bids for a dozen French titles but there is a new kid on the block lurking.

All eyes in the tennis world are on Paris over the next two weeks for the French Open at Roland-Garros.

There’s plenty of speculation that this will be Roger Federer’s final season after the 37-year-old has admitted he won’t carry on playing into his 40’s.

His Grand Slam record stands at 20 with both Rafael Nadal (17) and Novak Djokovic (15) trying to chase the target down.

Federer’s 20 Grand Slam haul includes one French Open title in 2009 and four runner-up spots – every time beaten by the Roland-Garros maestro Rafael Nadal.

Federer is back in France for the first time in four years and on Sunday progressed to the second round having beaten the Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 and looks to have an easy task ahead facing Oscar Otte next, a 25-year-old lucky loser from Germany ranked 145 in the world.

Nadal has won a record 11 French Open titles and starts his campaign on Monday. The Spaniard has had a good year and comes into this fresh from success in Rome.  In the first Slam of the year, the Australian Open, Nadal progressed to the final without dropping a set before he ran into an irresistible Novak Djokovic in what turned out to be, against the odds, a very one-sided final.

Nadal may have problems with Djokovic again but if there is a surprise package to the Big Three then keep an eye on Dominic Thiem.

Trading at around 10.0 on BETDAQ, Thiem starts his tourney on Monday against Tommy Paul which should be a straightforward opener.

The 25-year-old has played brilliantly on clay so far this year and will be keen to go one better than last year in Paris when he was beaten in the final by Nadal.

This year Thiem has won the won the Barcelona Open without dropping a single set and is arriving in France in better form than he was 12 months ago.

He has recently beaten both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic so should hold no fears and perhaps it is time, at last, for a new kid on the block to emerge?

I recommend backing Thiem on BETDAQ to be the 2nd Quarter Winner at around 1.90 and to win the title at around 10.0.

MATCH POINT BETS:
8 points win THIEM to be 2nd Quarter Winner at around 1.90 on BETDAQ
5 points win THIEM to win French Open at around 10.0 on BETDAQ
