AUSTRALIAN OPEN MEN’S SEMI-FINAL: MATCH POINT previews Novak Djokovic v Tommy Paul on Friday with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Without tempting fate, it looks as though Djokovic’s claims on a record 10th Australian Open title and more importantly presumably a ‘Nadal-equalling’ 22nd career Slam now looks a formality after what already looked a favourable draw has been made even easier with the principal challengers falling by the wayside.
They included my ante-post picks Sinner, Ruud and Korda who all gave me a run for my money progressing to some degree – notably Sebastian Korda (recommended at a BETDAQ 43.0) who was forced to retire injured in the quarter finals when two sets down to Khachanov.
Fortunately I included Djokovic too from the outset which will leave the Men’s tournament with a small profit if he lifts the trophy again on Sunday.
Standing in the way is American Tommy Paul who is competing in his first Grand Slam semi-final and faces the Super Serb for the first time.
Certainly Djokovic seems be to be unfazed by his reported pre-tournament hamstring injury and has dropped just the one set in the tournament so far against against Enzo Couacaud.
Worryingly for Paul, Djokovic is getting stronger as the second week goes on and he was particularly impressive in the quarter finals where he dispatched world number five Andrey Rublev 6-1 6-2 6-4.
In contrast, Paul had a harder four set battle to get past fellow American Ben Shelton.
It’s hard to find much value in what looks a one-sided encounter but Tommy Paul NOT to win a set at 1.49 looks eminently bankable on the BETDAQ Sportsbook.
