MATCH POINT: Our tennis tipping column is 26 points up since it started. The next bet comes in the Australian Open Women’s Final on Saturday morning, a final pairing that was hard to forecast it’s Sofia Kenin v Garbine Muguruza.
It’s the Women’s Final that no one predicted and I’m fairly certain I can include both Sofia Kenin and Garbine Muguruza in that generalisation.
In a tournament where the seeds have fallen right from round one – it all comes down to the 14th seed Sofia Kenin taking on the unseeded Garbine Muguruza.
The two have only met once before, that was in the China Open with Kenin winning an odd match 0-6, 6-2, 2-6 and there’s probably some value in her repeating the dose here at around 2.7 on BETDAQ.
Don’t forget it’s 0% COMMISSION ON BETDAQ for all tennis markets.
Muguruza has bounced back to form and bids for her third Grand Slam title having won the 2016 French Open and Wimbledon in 2017.
Her form dipped after that purple patch and she slipped back to 36th in the world (from #1) at the end of last year but she is cautious having the experience will convert to a positive on Saturday morning.
Muguruza said “It doesn’t matter how many Grand Slams you have. It’s a tennis match.
“Even if you have 15 Grand Slams, you go out there and you have somebody that can beat you.”
Muguruza re-united with coach Conchita Martinez at the start of the season who she was with when she won at SW19.
Martinez is bullish about her chances: “I have seen this look before when she’s been playing really good tennis.
“I like how she’s doing everything right to put herself in a good situation, to do well, to play well.”
If anything, Kenin has impressed the most in the tournament so far – only been taken to three sets once, whereas Muguruza dropped sets in both the opening two rounds.
A tough call but Kenin to win (2.7) and to do it in straight sets (4.5) is the call.
