MATCH POINT WIMBLEDON: Our tennis tipping column is 13 points up this year and now makes BETDAQ recommendations for both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments at Wimbledon.

Strawberries, sunshine and SW19.

Wimbledon 2019 starts today and here are my pre-tournament BETDAQ selections for the outright markets:

MEN’S

10 PREVIOUS FINALS
2009 Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick 5–7, 7–6(8–6), 7–6(7–5), 3–6, 16–14
2010 Rafael Nadal beat Tomáš Berdych 6–3, 7–5, 6–4
2011 Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal 6–4, 6–1, 1–6, 6–3
2012 Roger Federer beat Andy Murray 4–6, 7–5, 6–3, 6–4
2013 Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic 6–4, 7–5, 6–4
2014 Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer 6–7(7–9), 6–4, 7–6(7–4), 5–7, 6–4
2015 Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer 7–6(7–1), 6–7(10–12), 6–4, 6–3
2016 Andy Murray beat Milos Raonic 6–4, 7–6(7–3), 7–6(7–2)
2017 Roger Federer beat Marin Čilić 6–3, 6–1, 6–4
2018 Novak Djokovic beat Kevin Anderson 6–2, 6–2, 7–6(7–3)

The BETDAQ market heavily favours the ‘Big Three’ of Djokovic, Federer and Nadal and it’s hardly surprising given that only Andy Murray has prevented one of the three winning the last 10 titles between them – Murray is missing out this year after his amazing recovery from his hip injury.

Nadal hasn’t won here since 2010 and perhaps age is at last catching up with Federer whose Grand Slam tally of 20 may not be added to, so of the three I’d want to keep Djokovic on side.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC

As defending champion, Djokovic has the honour of playing first on Centre Court on Monday againstGermany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber. It’s a tester of a game but Djokovic has to be fancied to run very deep into the tournament once more as the current world number one. In addition, the Wimbledon seedings mean that he wouldn’t meet Federer until the final and if they did work out I certainly would want to be on Djokovic in that scenario.

FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME

The sensational new kid on the block. Age or inexperience is no barrier to success at Wimbledon – just ask Boris Becker about that one. We could get a real good run for our money with Auger-Aliassime, the 18-year-old from Montreal who has zoomed up the world rankings this year to a career-best No. 21, having started 2019 ranked No. 108 in the world. He has also made two ATP finals in his past three tournaments. He starts off today against fellow Canadian Vasek Pospisil and if there is going to be a surprise winner outside of the big three then this kid just could be the real deal.

WOMEN’S

10 PREVIOUS FINALS
2009 Serena Williams beat Venus Williams 7–6(7–3), 6–2
2010 Serena Williams beat Vera Zvonareva 6–3, 6–2
2011 Petra Kvitová beat Maria Sharapova 6–3, 6–4
2012 Serena Williams beat Agnieszka Radwańska 6–1, 5–7, 6–2
2013 Marion Bartoli beat Sabine Lisicki 6–1, 6–4
2014 Petra Kvitová beat Eugenie Bouchard 6–3, 6–0
2015 Serena Williams beat Garbiñe Muguruza 6–4, 6–4
2016 Serena Williams beat Angelique Kerber 7–5, 6–3
2017 Garbiñe Muguruza beat Venus Williams 7–5, 6–0
2018 Angelique Kerber beat Serena Williams 6–3, 6–3

After years of Serena Williams domination, women’s tennis is very much in transition at the moment and as a result the women’s title has a far more open look to it this year with the BETDAQ market struggling to find a market leader. It’s refreshing to see it so open, but makes it tough for punters.

ASHLEIGH BARTY

A former junior Wimbledon champion at 15, Ashleigh Barty has been catapulted to the world’s number one in a very short space of time. It’s hard to ignore her chance given her current form. She won the Miami Open in March, her first Grand Slam singles title at the French Open in June and then became world number one when winning a grass-court tournament in Birmingham. Her game could be even better suited to grass than clay which is bad news for the 23-year-old’s opponents.

ANGELIQUE KERBER

At double figure BETDAQ odds it’s hard not to include defending champion Kerber in the portfolio. She was ruthless 12 months ago when beating Serena Williams 6-3, 6-3 in the final. She could find herself up against Williams again as the two players are scheduled to meet in the quarter‑finals if the seedings work out. The concern would be that she hasn’t won a tournament since but she could easily raise her game in defence of her title.
