PREVIEW
As Kirsten Flipkens found out yesterday – Wimbledon semi-finals on Centre Court are a whole new ball game.
As she was brushed aside by Bartoli you were left with the impression that the occasion got to her and in her mind this was as far as she was going to go.
Self-belief is not something that Andy Murray lacks and nothing other than a second consecutive Wimbledon Final will be acceptable for the Scot today.
He is long odds-on, and rightly so but has drifted to lift the title after making hard work of beating Fernando Verdasco in five sets on Wednesday.
He lost the first two sets and put his supporters and backers through the mill as he fought back to win.
He can’t afford any loose sets today and will want to get the job done as quickly as possible today to preserve every bit of energy from a final that is 48 hours away/.
Standing in his way is Jerzy Janowicz, a surprise semi-finalist, being only the 24th seed and a relative newcomer to the ATP Tour.
Last year the 6ft 8in Pole had to qualify for Wimbledon, going on to reach the third round, and he has enjoyed a rapid rise since then.
The biggest breakthrough for the 22-year-old was his run to the final of the Paris Masters last November, which included a third-round victory over Murray.
He’s had a relatively easy passage through so far the tournament and you just wonder whether nerves and the sense of occasion might get to him like Flipkens yesterday.
Murray to win 3-0 is 2.4 on BETDAQ and for once we think he’ll give his supporters a relatively easy journey at this stage of the tournament.
