PREVIEW
There are no easy games in international football. So goes the motto much loved by England managers down the years. Roy Hodgson has been at it again ahead of his side’s clash with San Marino tonight. The former Liverpool boss warned against overconfidence after a season where domestically cup shocks have been the norm.

However, not even the most diehard Sammarinese is expecting anything less than a thrashing when the Three Lions visit the Serravalle Stadium.

For San Marino, a country who have only even won one game in their international history – against fellow minnows Liechtenstein – and languish at the foot of the FIFA world rankings, sharing the accolade of officially the worst team in the world with the Turks and Caicos Islands and Bhutan, these matches are simply an exercise in damage control.

Montenegro put six past them back in October and England hit five in this reverse fixture at Wembley, and famously won 7-1 away to the micro-state back in 1993. The fact England conceded after just eight seconds made more headlines than the comprehensive win.

But we’ve seen in recent qualifying campaigns that England have typically struggled away to part-timers. In the last decade they have visited the likes of Andorra, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Macedonia and only once left with a victory by a margin of more than two goals. That was a 3-0 win in Andorra in 2007 when it was goalless at half-time.

It would be very disappointing if England couldn’t improve on that record later but with eyes on Tuesday’s crunch clash with the Montenegrins it might not be the absolute drubbing many expect. Betting on games like this essentially boils down to a correct score prediction and the 3-0 result at around 6 on BETDAQ and the 4-0 result at around 5.3 are worth an interest.
