PREVIEW
With Queens Park Rangers and Reading’s relegation confirmed yesterday, both Aston Villa and Sunderland know that a win tonight will push them further clear of Wigan who are in the last relegation spot.

Victory for the visiting Black Cats would take them to the magic 40 points – considered enough to secure Premier League status – and they travel to Villa Park on the back of successive wins. They haven’t, however, managed three wins on the bounce since February 2012.

There’s no doubt, though, that Paolo Di Canio has made a big impact since he was appointed manager and he has described tonight’s clash as Sunderland’s ‘Champions League final.’ His side boast a decent record at this stadium, avoiding defeat in seven of the 11 matches there in Premier League history.

But Aston Villa have been in good form of late and it’s easy to excuse their 3-0 reverse at Old Trafford last time. That defeat to Manchester United was only the second time Villa have failed to score in the league in their last 14 matches, but they have also failed to keep a clean sheet for 18 matches. Even so, it was their first defeat in six matches.

The Villans’ home form is poor. Only QPR have managed less home wins but there’s enough question marks over both teams to make a win bet an unappealing prospect.

Those fond of stats will point out that in 23 previous Premier League meetings between the pair there have been just 40 goals, but both sides have been amongst the goals of late and over 2.5 goals at 2.05 on BETDAQ is the call.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back over 2.5 goals at around 2.05 on BETDAQ: 4 points

Sunday: +4.04 points
APRIL RETURN TO DATE: +17.98 points
